About the Miamisburg City School DistrictThe district has a growing enrollment of over 5000 students whose educational needs are served in six elementary schools (Grades K-5), a single grade level elementary building (Grade 6), one middle school (Grades 7-8), and one comprehensive high school with an enrollment of 1360 students. The Miami Valley Career Technology Center provides classes in 50 vocational areas. Beginning with entry into kindergarten, Miamisburg students receive an excellent foundation upon which to build their future career/education choices. A kindergarten screening program begins to identify the needs of students before they start formal classes. The elementary schools emphasize basic skills in integrated language arts, citizenship, mathematics, and science. Kinder Elementary School was named a 2003 "No Child Left Behind National Blue Ribbon School." Kinder was one of 18 schools given the award in the state of Ohio. Neff Elementary School, which houses all of the district sixth-graders, received "Hall of Fame" status in the year 2002. Seventh and eighth grade students, ready for the transition to skill development and diversified subject areas, attend Wantz Middle School, where the staff has been divided into teams. The team concept creates an atmosphere which promotes academic success and personal attention necessary for students in this stage of development. Wantz Middle School was recognized by the Ohio Middle School Association for their successful and innovative teaming strategies. As a 1999 Ohio Hall of Fame inductee, Wantz Middle School was also honored by the Ohio Association of Elementary Schools and is a 2000 National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence Award winner. Miamisburg High School is a comprehensive, four-year high school and a recipient of the National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence Award. MHS offers a strong curriculum which is designed to meet the needs of students who will choose post-secondary education or an occupation in a diverse and demanding marketplace. |
