KINDER HOLIDAY CONCERT AT THE MEMORIAL BUILDING
On Wednesday, December 17th, Kinder students and Music teachers will be presenting the Holiday Music Program. All students will be performing and we can’t wait to share their talents with you and your family. The concert will be held in the Memorial Building Auditorium and will begin at 7:00 pm. Students are to report at 6:30 pm.
A letter was sent home with your child, dated November 25th from your child’s music teacher regarding proper attire and arrival time.
Mrs. Bennett and Miss Guth have been very busy preparing your children to show their talents to all family members. We look forward to seeing you on the 17th for an evening of holiday entertainment!
BREAKFAST WITH SANTA
Come join Kinder community for the fun, the food and the holiday cheer on Saturday, December 13th from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. Cost for breakfast is as follows: Adults:$2.00, Non Kinder students/children $1.00 and Kinder students are free! Pictures with Santa will be taken for a small fee. The famous Kinder cake walk will also be available for those who feel lucky! So come and join Santa for the hot coffee and good food! We would like to thank The Miami Valley Community Church in advance for their time and effort with the breakfast! It has been a great partnership! Don’t forget to come and visit the Holiday Gift Shop in the Kinder Library!
COMMUNITY EVENTS AND PROGRAMS CAN BE FOUND ON DISTRICT WEBSITE
In the past, we have sent home approved event and program flyers offered by community businesses and organizations with our students. While we are happy to assist our community in any way, our schools are being inundated with these types of requests and they are taking up the valuable time of our secretaries and teachers, as well as adding to the already full backpacks of our students.
So, our new process will be to post community flyers to Miamisburg City Schools’ website: www.miamisburgcityschools.org. When visiting the site, please click the “Community” link and then the “Community Flyers” page to view PDF versions of any available Community Flyers.
We hope that you will check the website frequently to learn of programs or events that may be of interest to you or your student.
FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S PEN
As we prepare for the holiday season, let us not forget about the people around us - our family and our neighbors. We must remember to lend a hand when needed and to assist in any way possible. I don’t mean by monetary means or expensive items. I mean a card to your aunt that you have not seen in a while, a friendly smile to your neighbor, or a visit to someone you may know who is ill.
For many of us, this is a special, if not the best time of the year. Let’s use it to our advantage by sharing with others. For some of us, the holiday season was not always the best of times as children, but when we think back on them, the little things that happened make us smile. We share special memories that cause our children to look at us like we are crazy! They would be devastated if they had to go through some of our lean holidays! It is in that spirit that we can offer so little, but mean so much to someone. I don’t remember the gifts I received, but I remember my older sisters telling me about Santa and the excitement I felt. As I write this, I have a warm feeling!
I hope everyone can find that little story, or that one smile or even the smallest gift that brings a warm feeling to the people around you. May your holidays be bright and your smiles abundant. Happy Holidays!
Together in Education,
Mr. Ivory
STUDENT DISMISSAL
I would like to address a couple of issues that are happening at Kinder during student dismissal. First and once again, please do not leave your cars parked in the alley or church lot driving lanes! If you are picking up your child, stay in your car and have them come to the end of the playground and wait until you pull up. If you need to meet them on the playground, come a little earlier and find a parking spot. Remember, if needed, there is a parking lot behind the public library. Second, if you have an older sibling picking up a Kinder student, please tell them to have their friends wait off of the playground. We are having too many teenagers on the playground at dismissal, which brings up my third issue. No older students are to be on the playground equipment when waiting for school to be dismissed. Before dismissal, I want the playground equipment for parents and little siblings not teenagers hanging out. Teenagers are more than welcome to return to the playground equipment after 4:00 pm. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at your convenience.
STUDENT ABSENCES
In accordance with the Missing Children Act, which requires notification of a student absence, the Miamisburg City Schools procedure is as follows:
If a student is absent from school the parent/guardian will call the school office on the day of the absence no later than 9:30 am. This call is to explain the nature of the absence. When said child returns to school, s/he must bring in a signed note explaining absence. The telephone call alone is not enough, nor is the note. Please understand, this is for the safety of your child.
Lexis Nexis, Children's Medical Center and Kinder Team Up!
Lexis Nexis Cares Program has donated 42 bicycles to be raffled off during the months of October, November and December. To go along with those bikes, Children’s Medical Center has donated 42 helmets. Students are awarded “Golden Tickets” for their behavior throughout the school day. Students are given tickets for staying on a green light, no late homework, showing respect to other students or staff, being polite to others and a variety of other ways. The tickets are sent to the office and winners are drawn and announced on KNN. If your child’s name is drawn, Mr. Ivory will be contacting you for arrangements on picking up the bike and helmet. BOXTOPS FOR EDUCATION
The Kinder PTO utilizes several programs as ongoing fundraisers, including BoxTops for Education, Campbells Labels, Nestle GoPlay labels and Scrips. Every nine weeks, children are entered into a drawing for each ten BoxTop labels submitted. One winner is drawn for every grade level and announced on KNN. So clip your boxtops and send them to school in a ziplock bag that has your child’s name, teacher’s name and grade level. Visit boxtops4education.com for more information.
KINDER HOLIDAY MOVIE
Another holiday tradition at Kinder is the holiday movie at Showcase Cinema behind the Corners of the Mall, next to Best Buy. This year we are planning on attending the movie, “The Tale of Despereaux” on Saturday, December 20th, at 10:00 am. We need to sell at least 200 tickets to reserve the theater. Ticket prices are $7.00 per person. Registration forms will be going home with your child during the week of December 1st. The movie is based on the Newberry Award winning book about a misfit little mouse who prefers reading books to eating them! So have an early breakfast and join the Kinder family for a morning movie!
This year everyone is also invited to join us at the Pizza Hut in West Carrolton for lunch. The flyer will tell you all about lunch! Look for it coming to your home!
KINDER SCIENCE FAIR
The students, and parents, have been working hard getting their science projects ready for Wednesday, December 3rd for Kinder’s annual Science Fair. The community walk through to see all of the projects will be from 2:15 to 2:50 pm. Please come through the gym doors and take a look at all of the dazzling displays of the art of science. All first place Kinder winners will move on to the Miamisburg District Science Fair which will be held on Thursday, December 11th, at Medlar View Elementary.
